Gunwharf Quays Marina is located within the Gunwharf Quays premium outlet shopping centre located in the Portsea area of the city of Portsmouth. It was constructed in the early 21st century on the site of what had once been HM Gunwharf, Portsmouth. This was one of several such facilities which were established around Britain and the Empire by the Board of Ordnance, where cannons, ammunition and other armaments were stored, repaired and serviced ready for use on land or at sea. Later known as HMS Vernon, the military site closed in 1995. The site opened to the public as Gunwharf Quays on 28 February 2001 after six years of reconstruction (which included the restoration of some of the surviving 18th and 19th-century Gun Wharf buildings). The landmark 170m Spinnaker Tower, which stands close to the site on pilings in Portsmouth Harbour, was opened on 18 October 2005.
Set against the backdrop of Portsmouth’s Historic Naval Dockyard, the specially designed marina at Gunwharf Quays can accommodate power and sail craft up to 80 metres LOA with a maximum depth of 5.5 metres.
The Marina provides direct access to the cruising grounds of the Solent and South Coast and is in an ideal location for vessels transiting to and from the shipyards of Northern Europe The Marina has 24 hour on site security, access to water and multiple 3 phase 63/125 A electricity.
Gunwharf Quays offers excellent transport links being adjacent to a main line train station with direct trains into London Waterloo and London Gatwick Airport, a central bus station and taxi stands. On site the Centre has over 90 premium outlet stores, over 30 restaurants, cafes and bars, a cinema, bowling alley, casino, hotel and ample underground secure parking.
